“Max, you knew what I did for a living when we first got together. Nothing has changed. I’m still the same person I was a year ago.”

“I know that,” Max said, his voice rising. “But it doesn’t mean I have to like it. Every time I see you with someone else on screen, it tears me apart inside.”

Scarlit could see the pain in his eyes, and for a moment, she felt a pang of guilt. She had always tried to be understanding of Max’s feelings, but she couldn’t change who she was.

“I’m sorry, Max. I never wanted to hurt you. But you have to understand that this is my job. It’s what I love to do, and I can’t give it up just because it makes you uncomfortable.”

Max looked down at his hands, his face contorted with emotion. “I know, Scar. I just wish things could be different. I wish I could be enough for you.”

Scarlit moved closer to him, taking his hand in hers. “You are enough for me, Max. You’re the only person who has ever made me feel loved and accepted for who I am. But I can’t change who I am, and I can’t give up my dreams just to make you happy.”

Max nodded, tears welling up in his eyes. “I know. I’m sorry, Scar. I don’t want to be that kind of guy, the one who tries to change his girlfriend just because he’s jealous. I’m just struggling to come to terms with it, you know?”

Scarlit smiled, relieved to see that he was starting to understand. “I know, Max. And I appreciate you trying. But we have to accept each other for who we are, flaws and all. That’s what love is.”

Max leaned in, pressing his forehead against hers. “I love you, Scar. I’ll try to be better, I promise.”

“I love you too, Max,” Scarlit said, wrapping her arms around him. “And I’ll always be here for you, no matter what.”

In that moment, they both knew that their love was stronger than any jealousy or fear. They may not have had all the answers, but they were willing to work through their issues together, with love and understanding.

As they sat there on the couch, wrapped in each other’s arms, they knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together, side by side.

For the rest of the evening, Scarlit and Max talked and laughed, enjoying each other’s company without any tension between them. They ordered pizza and watched a movie, cuddled up on the couch like they used to.
